David Balmforth, a flooding expert at the Institution of Civil Engineers, said deluges on a similar scale will become more frequent as a result of climate change. He said: "Climate change means that is only going to get worse. We cannot hope to defend ourselves from flooding on this scale. "Instead we need to make our communities much more resilient to flooding and this must be placed at the heart of the way we plan, design and build our towns and villages."Climate change is real - and its effects will get much worse if we don't act now. Email the Prime Minister - or, perhaps, Barack Obama since the Right Honorable Stephen Harper seems to be awaiting his lead.
I blog about environmental and social justice issues because I am very concerned about the health of the interdependent web of life of which we are a part.
